Comment: As explained in a note on page 131, up to sloka (chapter) 40, Laghu Parasari & Jataka Chandrika are identical. Slokas 41 & 42 are from Laghu Parasari, slokas from 43 onwards are unique to Jataka Chandrika. Slokas are numbered in the table of contents, but not in the text of the book itself. There are various "missing" slokas, starting with 44. A casual glance at the book shows more than one bit of Sanskrit for each of the 12 signs, thus accounting for the jumps in numbers. Commentaries include those of Pt Vinayaka Sastri 'Betala', Pt Ram Yatna Ojha & Pt Seeta Ram Jha.

Ranjan Publications, 189 pages.

INDEX

Comment: Even more comprehensive than B.V. Raman's 300 Important Combinations.

There is an organization to this book. It starts with yogas of the five planets, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus & Saturn. Next are yogas of Sun & Moon, the two eyes of our solar system. (pg. xii). Following those are lunar yogas for hope & vitality. These are followed by lordships of benefic houses, and then Nabhas yogas, which manifest throughout life. Lastly come yogas related to the twelve houses themselves. Here are found, under the 10th house, Raja yogas, under the 6th, 8th & 12th, Arishta, and some 25 yogas, relating to disease, under the 6th, as well as many other house-related yogas.

For each yoga, the author gives its name in Sanskrit characters, as well as Definition, Results, and Comments. Many yogas also include example charts, natal & navamsa. The alphabetical index is a merciful addition.

The author states that yogas are unknown in the west. While this is a common belief, it is not true. From the time of the Greeks, yogas have been known as aphorisms. Since I, myself, can't make heads or tails of yogas, I think I will bring the western versions back to life, as, whatever you call them, they are far too good, too useful, to ignore.
