AFA Vedic Books, page 1

It seems that Bob Cooper took a liking to books by Saraswathy. Seems he stocked every book she ever wrote. All of these are small, most of them are not well-printed though they are readable. Many, if not all, started as translations of the classics by Saraswathy's father, the late Kadalangudi Natesa Sastri, translations from Sanskrit (or Hindi, perhaps) to Tamil.

Saraswathy has translated her father's work from Tamil to English. While the results are still in the same overall style as translations I have seen elsewhere, direct connection to the originals seems slight. There are no original slokas for reference, and the books seems to have been reorganized generally. Whether this is a help or a hindrance depends on what you expect to get from them.

Many of these books are still in print & still available. Current printings are of a better quality, though my distributor tells me that export prices were raised some years ago & the books might not still be affordable. Otherwise, when the last of the AFA's old stock have sold, these will disappear. In the meanwhile, Enjoy!

Results of fifth house Glossary Comment: Subtitled, A Compendium of Results from Classics Parasara Samhita, Saravali, Sarvath Chintamani, Jataka Tattva etc. on the 12 houses of the horoscope. These extracts were originally compiled in Tamil by the author's father, Pandit Kadalungudi Natesa Sastri. Saraswathy has "transcreated" the book in to English. In each chapter, the author gives a simple list of effects, from the first reference book, and then from the second, the third, the fourth, etc. No effort is made to explain the reasoning, nor is any effort made to reconcile the various points of view. There are no extracts from the original books themselves. The index in each of these three volumes is an extended table of contents & is quite useful. Kadalangudi Publications, 238 pages. For the fifth house, these include (taken from the index): Legitimacy of children, lovers' children, childlessness, son's character, many children, more daughters, number of sons / daughters, adoption, propitiation of snake cures, other curses, curses due to mantras & ghosts The curious thing about this book is that the organization bears no resemblance to Santhanam's well-known translation. 	AGNA VIDYA, or Instant Astrological Forecast by Sage Varahamira - K.N. Saraswathy, $5.00 Contents: Dedication Preface Salutation An enumeration of the 44 slokas Glossary Comment: The nature of this book is given in a note on the front cover: (The questioner, while asking for the prediction touches some part or other of his/her body. This book deals with the auspicious & other effects of the prediction based on this behavior.) The book opens with full-page illustrations of each of the planetary dieties. It continues with a list of good & bad places for the astrologer to take questions (avoid crematoriums & empty houses), a list of masculine (swift results), feminine (slow results) & eunuch (no results) body parts (testicles are masculine, but the penis is a eunuch), a list of other omens that might influence the result (dry ginger?). Uniquely, Sanskrit slokas are given, in Sanskrit. Kadalangudi Publications, 21 pages. Printed: 1985.
